About this Course
Q: | What is the video course about? |
---|---|
A: | This video course provides teacher tips and step-by-step instructions so you can use JPEF’s Finding Leadership lesson plan right away with your students. Finding Leadership gives students the opportunity to explore the concept of Leadership and Authority in the partisans’ journeys, and how to apply what they learn to their everyday lives. |
Q: | What resources are included in this video course? The Finding Leadership lesson plan includes activities, cooperative games, worksheets, and discussion questions for analyzing leadership examples in the partisans’ lives. Further activities encourage your students to apply the concepts to help your students take more initiative in their own social and work groups. |

Q: | Who is it for? |
---|---|
A: | This is an advanced JPEF E-Learning course. You should be familiar with JPEF's 'Resistance Basics' video course before proceeding. How do these materials support learning? |
A: | These materials provide the basis for whole class discussion, partner study, written response, research projects, and creative extensions that will expand the way students think about both history and resistance to oppression. The materials are designed to encourage critical thinking skills, including questions about whether you need to be recognized as an ‘authority’ before taking action, and what it takes to function as an effective leader. |
Q: | What other applications are there for these materials? |
---|---|
A: | Finding Leadership can be taught in history, civics, tolerance, social studies, and Jewish education classes. It is also useful in anti-drug and gang-prevention workshops, and of course, leadership training. English teachers can apply the lesson's core concepts to a range of lesson plans including literary analysis and character studies. |
Q: | How is the course structured? |
---|---|
A: | This course uses a "do, then teach" model showing how the lesson is used in the classroom, then explaining the theory behind it, as well as suggestions for customizing the lesson. The course is divided into eight chapters, with quizzes at the end of most chapters to test and reinforce comprehension. Teachers who score 80% or more on the quizzes can earn free credit hours and CEUs through Touro College. |
